The seminar addresses clustering and scaling techniques, which are techniques exploring latent variables, i.e., variables that are not directly observed. The seminar will focus on factor analysis and multiple correspondence analysis, and on cluster analysis. The seminar participants will learn to interpret examples from the social sciences and to understand the statistical and methodological principles. By applying these techniques to secondary data sets, the students will gain practical experience in using these techniques and in interpreting and visualising the results. The software program used in the seminar will be R. |
