Inhalt This course centers on the question how increasing international interdependence during the last decades (globalization) as well as pressure arising from a global environmental problem (climate change) has impacted on nation states’ policies. It thus brings together two main challenges to any nation state in the 21st century. We first introduce both phenomena and their distinct implications on government ‘s room to manouvre in key domestic areas such as the welfare state or tax policy. What are implications on domestic politics (parties, public opinion)? What can we learn from research on globalization on how to incorporate or compensate winners and loser of climate change? Second, we consider implications of one phenomenon on the other, how do the two challenges interlink, i.e. what are consequences of climate change for globalization and vice versa. In addition to reading recent scholarly contributions, an emphasis will also be placed on how research is designed to answer the substantive questions posed.
