Inhalt The main aim of this course is to train students with empirical methods used in research, with an emphasis on applications in health economics, and develop their knowledge of research.Students will deepen their knowledge of health economics through a list of selected research papers on which they will critically reflect and undertake their own complementary empiricalanalysis. To this end, students will prepare a term paper that will include a synthesis of the literature in the related field, an analysis of data, the replication of the main results of a selectedpaper along with their critical assessment. Alternative empirical strategies could also be discussed when replication codes are not available. Students will present their work in class.Further details on the topics, the expectations towards the term paper, the oral presentation, and the discussion will be given during the introductory meeting (see also below).
Lernziele The course has four main objectives:
(i) to familiarise and critically assess the main conclusions from current scientific literature,
(ii) to apply analytical methods that address current problems in health economics,
(iii) to improve writing and research formulation skills,
(iv) to practice scientific presentation to a critical audience.

Leistungsnachweis Grading is based on a term paper (50%), the presentation of the paper (30%), and the discussion of another student’s presentation (20%).
Students in the MSc Health Sciences can acquire additional credits according to § 5, 1b of the Guidelines to the Study and Examination Regulations for the Master’s program (“Schriftliche Arbeiten”) for a revised version of their term paper after the successful completion of thes eminar and based on the comments provided by the discussant and the lecturers.
