Turnus |
Kairos-Theologie (Theologische Gender Studies) wird jährlich im FS angeboten. |
Inhalt |
This course will equip students to read ancient Christian texts critically using contemporary methodologies. We will discuss both ancient texts and contemporary scholarly literature and examine how it resists or cooperates with masculinity, patriarchy or heteronormative notions of gender and the body. Archival problems, especially the lack of source texts authored by women, will be addressed and methods for engaging with that reality introduced. |

Lernziele |
Students should recall and refine previous and/or popular knowledge of gender, feminism, queer theory, gender theory and how history is written.
Students should apply key concepts of historiography and feminist critique to representations of gender in early Christianity.
Students should analyze and evaluate scholarly representations of gender, masculinity, and bodies in the early church.
Students should practice and apply skills of close reading and discourse analysis, especially on source texts.
Students should reflect on and evaluate their own internalized narrative of gender in early Christianity.
Students should select, sequence and structure their own account of how queer-feminist approaches to early Christianity shift the received narrative. |
Voraussetzungen |
It would be wise to read around a bit in the Oxford Handbook of Early Christian Studies before the course begins, for example the entries on "Women and Gender", "Asceticism", and "Which early Christianity?" |
