The aim of the workshop is to introduce the main concepts and options for health systems financing with a focus on analysing coverage and financial risk-protection. The workshop will provide a structured overview to the main health systems financing functions, including (1) resource mobilization, (2) pooling & allocation, and (3) purchasing with a focus on provider payment systems.

The first half will consist of a 60 min lecture + 30 min Q & A introducing concepts and examples from Europe.

The second half will consist of a 45 min group work exercise, where students should use the introduced concepts and apply them to the analysis of either (a) the health financing system in a country, or (b) a particular provider payment system + 45 min presentations and discussion.
