Inhalt This seminar will investigate and analyse the notion of “power” and of “politics”, taking examples from the Pacific societies. This region has been important in the social sciences and humanities in general, and anthropology in particular, for analysing different forms of political organisation and of the expression of power-relationships. After introducing the main concepts and political forms relevant in Oceanic societies, we will engage in discussing specific situations and cases through the analysis of important scientific texts. A discussion of “power” in the Pacific opens up the potential for a nuanced understanding of politics in other sociocultural and historical situations.
