Inhalt Basics of a scientific paper (1 day)
• What is a scientific paper?
• Common scientific paper structures
• Active reading strategies

• Behind the paper: The publishing process


How to write a scientific paper (1/2 day)
• Understanding the structure and purpose of each paper section (Title, Abstract, Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion)
• Applying principles of clear, concise, and accessible scientific writing
• Aligning the manuscript with journal guidelines and audience expectations
• Navigating the publication process, including journal selection, peer review, and revisions
Practicing writing and structuring sections of a scientific paper through hands-on exercises

How to use AI for writing a scientific paper (1/2 day)
• The use of AI in scientific work
• What is AI, what are the ethics of using AI?
• Using AI tools to help with the search process
• Using AI tools to help summarize and evaluate papers
• Using AI tools to help facilitate the writing process
• Recommendations and limitations related to AI
• Hands-on exercises using various existing AI tools
Lernziele This course enables students to develop the skills required to critically read, analyze, and write scientific papers in the field of health sciences. Students will learn to deconstruct complex texts, identify and assess arguments and methodologies, and apply these insights in their own academic writing. They will also explore the responsible and effective use of AI tools to support the research and writing process.
Voraussetzungen There is no grade for the course itself, it is designed as a workshop. We still ask students to register on Moodle so the lecturers can plan accordingly. To earn credits for their term paper, students should follow the information on Moodle for writing a term paper in the Master Program.

Begrenzung There is no grade for the course itself, as it is designed as a workshop. Students must register on Moodle for planning purposes. ECTS will only be granted upon submission of the term paper, following the instructions provided on Moodle for the Master Program

Hinweise Lehrmethoden:
The course combines short lectures, guided discussions, and hands-on exercises. Students practice reading, analyzing, and writing scientific papers, including using AI tools. Peer feedback and real-paper examples support active learning and skill development.
