Inhalt Climate change is increasing the occurrence of extreme weather events, food shortages, and water scarcity. This course explores how such disasters and social challenges are linked to conflict. We explore two key questions: How can the implications of climate change foster conflict? How can existing conflicts pose challenges to mitigating the impact of climate change?

Based on the critical assessment of the current literature on climate change and conflict, students gain insight into the leading theories, data sources, and research methods in the field. In addition to the focus on climate change and conflict, students are introduced to key research design approaches. This allows students to develop their own research design paper and future research projects. The seminar prepares students intensively for writing their final paper. The course language is English. Since this course focuses on empirical approaches to study climate change and conflict, participants should have a basic understanding of research methods.
