The European Law Students’ Association (ELSA) organizes a Moot Court Competition on International Trade Law for students from all over the world. The simulated proceeding is based on the dispute settlement system of the World Trade Organization (WTO). The teams prepare and analyse a fictive case tackling key legal questions of international economic law in the fields of trade in goods and services. Following the release of the case in mid-September 2019, the team will draft written submissions for the Complainant and the Respondent. After the written submission phase, regional pleading rounds take place between February and March 2020. The best 20 teams are qualified to participate in the final oral round in June 2020, which takes place in Geneva in front of renowned WTO scholars and actual members of the WTO Panels and the Appellate Body.

The University of Lucerne Faculy of Law is keen to advance with a great team and confident that this can be an eriching and fun experience for all involved. Knowledge in international economic law is core to many modern legal professions and particulary valued in legal firms. Participation in a moot court has become a proof of litigation and organisational skills and is assessed as an asset by job and LL.M. applications.
We have been very successful with our first team reaching the finals in Geneva in 2018. We are keen to carry on this line of excellence. |
