Inhalt	This course will focus on the state as an anthropological object of enquiry. The students will critically delve into state institutions, practices and processes from both theoretical and ethnographic perspectives within an anthropological framework. It shall engage with preliminarily questions such as what is the state, and move onto more nuanced readings of the state from post-colonial standpoints to its neo-liberal transformations. In doing so, the students will be introduced to the conceptualizations of state power and governance, bureaucracy, state legitimacy and legibility; further looking at how the state (explicitly or implicitly) seeps into our everyday.
