Inhalt The list of main topic includes:


• Principles of persuasion


• Scientific writing (papers, posters and powerpoints);


• Public speaking


• Using social media for science communication
Lernziele The effective diffusion of expert scientific knowledge is challenging. This course helps students to develop the abilities to communicate science effectively in a variety of real-world contexts. It covers strategies for dealing with complex areas and topics in the context of health sciences. The course focuses on speaking and writing, designing research proposals, preparing briefings for policy-makers, team communication, writing blogs, and giving live interviews for broadcast media.

The course aims to equip students with knowledge and skills:
• To successfully engage in the main types of scientific communication
• To successfully disseminate scientific knowledge to lay-audiences
Voraussetzungen By the end of this course, students should be able to:
• make a persuasive presentation targeted to expert or lay audiences;
• master how to approach the composition of a scientific paper for a peer-reviewed journal, as well as of power points and posters.
• Engage with lay-audiences through social media channels.

Prüfung The final grade is based on students’ performance in an essay that include two parts: the writing of a scientific paper and the design of a social media profile for science communication (both due on 15 January 2021).

Interactive classes (including presentations from both the lecturer and the students, and class discussions) and class projects based on role-play exercises
