The aim of this course is to introduce students to the jurisprudential, doctrinal, and moral aspects of counter-terrorism law. The course will take a broad approach, encompassing case law from Europe, the US and the Middle East, international law, and some theoretical literature. We will ask, among other things, what is the right legal framework for counter-terrorism laws, whether there is a non-biased definition of terrorism, and how to reconcile the commitments to public security and to human rights. Though the course will be conducted as a series of lectures, students are encouraged to participate in the discussion. |
