Lernziele The first part of the course gives insights into the historical development of public health and key public health concepts, introduces the main goal of public health (“health equity”) and describes how public health interventions foster to prevent diseases and to promote health at a population level. The second part of the course provides knowledge on the role of public health in the management and control of different health concerns (e.g., communicable, non-communicable diseases, mental disorders). The third part shows how selected determinants of health (e.g., gender, age, migration) impact on health of individuals and populations and illustrates how major health-related needs and concerns of sub-populations might be tackled.
