Inhalt Economic development is a multifaceted subject. The UN’s sustainable development agenda defines 17 goals that are to be achieved by 2030. These range from poverty eradication to climate action and gender equality. While these goals concern all UN members, they are especially important in developing countries, where hunger and poverty are still pressing problems and climate change is likely to have a particularly large impact. In this seminar, we will discuss a wide range of topics with particular relevance for developing economies. The list of topics includes microcredit, the informal sector, the role of climate change, education and health, corruption, and urbanization. Besides debating these topics, we will also consider methodological questions, in particular the evaluation of development projects (impact evaluation). Students will read, present, and discuss recent research papers that—taken together—provide a good overview of current issues in international economic development.
