Inhalt |
The course introduces key methods used in applied health economic and policy research. Starting from a specific challenge or issue in the health system, theoretical and empirical approaches will be discussed to study the underlying phenomena, with a focus on quantitative research and the use of appropriate study designs to inform the questions of interest. Topics include describing and summarizing health data, the analysis of the demand for health care, socio-economic inequalities in health and related behaviors, public opinions on health and social policies, modeling of the dynamics of health and insurance decisions, and the empirical evaluation of public policy interventions, such as smoking bans, changes in the eligibility for disability insurance, cost-sharing in health insurance, self-dispensation of physicians and supplier-induced demand, and the financing of inpatient care. |
