Inhalt Today, economics, but also finance, provide philosophers of science an interesting and versatile breeding-ground for philosophical reflections. Under the Philosophy of Economics heading, we will, during one semester, critically read and reflect upon historical and more recent economic contributions and explore them from a philosophical point of view – in particular discussing their ontological, methodological and epistemological implications. Our seminar will be supported by academic papers published in economic and philosophical journals.
The aim of this seminar is to introduce bachelor and/or master level students to philosophy of economics, its main questions, ideas, concepts and positions and to discuss important questions arising from this field.
Lernziele Having actively participated in the course, you will be able to:
a. Describe the most influential positions in the philosophy of economics;
b. Reproduce the most important questions arising from these positions and explain their arguments;
c. Critically engage with economic and philosophical research papers.
Voraussetzungen Attendance of at least one proseminar in philosophy with completed (graded) written seminar paper. (Exception: free study achievements)
