Inhalt |
This course explores the evolution of international human rights law, tracing its development from traditional civil liberties to a broader spectrum of rights, including socio-economic, women’s, disability, and indigenous rights. Offering a multifaceted perspective, it blends theoretical foundations, critical analysis, and practical engagement.Beyond a positivist examination of human rights – focusing on the implementation of core United Nations treaties and substantive rights issues – the course critically interrogates the international human rights system. It integrates both mainstream and alternative perspectives, including feminist theory and Third World Approaches to International Law (TWAIL).Designed in a seminar format, the course fosters active preparation and participation, encouraging dynamic discussions that bridge theory, practice, and critique.Highlight of the course is a study visit to the United Nations in Geneva, offering insight into international human rights mechanisms. |
