Lernziele The course's primary objective is to support students developing a comprehensive understanding of health and its complexity within the context of a person's life and society. This objective is in line with the understanding of health sciences as a field concerned both with the study of people’s health state and their needs as well as with the study of the organized response to these needs and requirements by society through its health and health-related systems.

By incorporating an international perspective, learning objectives are:
- To develop a solid conceptual and philosophical understanding of health and health-related concepts, such as well-being;
- To get introduced to international WHO classifications and related tools as well as to standards of WHO for health policy and systems research;
- To develop skills to systematically 1) describe the health of persons and populations, 2) define feasible intervention targets to improve population health, 3) select appropriate systems-level interventions, 4) evaluate the impact of interventions.
