Students are obliged to a participation with no less than 10% attendance missing of the course dates. The course lessons will be composed of short ppt-based talks and as many active relaxation exercises as possible in the time frame. The students are obliged to continue doing the relaxation techniques by themselves between and after the course-days and later write their essays about the experiences with the chosen relaxation technique. |

| Inhalt |
Theory on hypnosis as well as autogenic training (AT) and progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) as examples for mind-body-techniques that were and are used in different medical fields. Several sessions with active training of AT and PMR with discussions about the individual effects on the course participants.
Goal is to get students aware of the topic of mental health, teach them two well established and provenly effective relaxation techniques as options for the prevention and treatment of mental health problems and have them experience the physiological effects of those techniques. Potentially also giving them a long term option to apply by themselves to achieve stress reduction and burnout prevention. |

Preface: The students acquire knowledge about and concrete experience with two relaxation techniques: autogenic training and progressive muscle relaxation
Learning objectives:
- The students acquired knowledge about the historic backgrounds and know how to evaluate relaxation-/mind-body-techniques in the context of medicine
- The students know the physiological effects, indications/contra-indications, limitations and non-/therapeutic applications and for relaxation-/mind-body-techniques
- The students experienced the effects of the relaxation-techniques themselves and have an have the capacity to apply the techniques by themselves
- The students develop an awareness for the topic of mental health issues and burnout prevention and its application in the treatment of their patients as well as for themselves as members of a risk group within society (medical professionals) |
| Voraussetzungen |
Basic knowledge about the medical care system and psychiatric / psychosomatic / stress-related diseases and the influence of stress related mental health issues on society and work.
Interest in learning about mind-body-techniques. |

Max. 15 participants. The limit is administered via MOODLE according to chronological order or registration. From August 31, 2026 at 12:00 noon it is possible to register via MOODLE. As soon as 15 participants are registered, the registration window will be closed automatically. |

Written essay as reflection on the experience with relaxation techniques of at least two pages DinA4, Arial, 12 pt., double-spaced.
This course is credited in the academic and professional skills.

Students should bring blankets and pillows to be able to lie down comfortably on the floor. They receive a script of the ppt.-based talk. Relaxation sessions can be recorded by the students with their mobile phones. |
