Inhalt International environmental law has been one of the fastest growing areas of public international law. Originally created by States for States to address problems arising between States, it has moved beyond this and has become part of global governance. This course offers a critical account of the history, key concepts, governance structures and regulatory techniques of this branch of public international law. In order to get a better idea of the functioning of international environmental law, and of its relevance for the application at the regional and national level, we will focus upon the protection of fauna and flora, and on biodiversity law. We will conduct exemplary studies on selected topics to better understand the interplay of national, regional and universal law.
