Inhalt The terms on which modern innovations are enjoyed and exploited continue to evolve. Cultural, technological, and branded goods are globally distributed, raising questions about who authorises ownership of, and access to information products, and what are the objectives and impacts of the international regime. While intangible assets, protected by intellectual property (IP), are integral to many economies they also impact public goods, such as access to medicines, green technologies to address climate change and educational resources. The course will analyse today’s public international law framework, including the core international intellectual property (IP) agreements (the Paris and Berne Convention and the TRIPS Agreement), as well as regional and bilateral instruments. We will also discuss the linkage of trade to IP rights and international law more broadly; the protection of indigenous peoples’ innovation and traditional knowledge; and relevant aspects of the roles of international organizations (such as the WTO and WIPO).
