Umfang 2 Semesterwochenstunden
Inhalt The Interdisciplinary colloquium on behavioral neuroscience provides PhD students with a structured platform for scientific discussion, presentation, and methodological deepening. Its aim is to promote critical analytical thinking, the active application of modern research methods, and the targeted development of communication skills in an interdisciplinary environment.
Participants gain deeper insights into neuroanatomical and methodological basis, with the specific methodological focus adapted to the research areas represented in the cohort (e.g. neuroanatomical correlates, behavioral methods, neuroimaging,…), while also practicing the presentation of their own projects, conducting journal clubs, and giving and receiving constructive feedback.
Lernziele • Critical scientific thinking: analyzing studies, methods, and statistical approaches, and situating them within theoretical frameworks. Present own research questions and contribute thoughtfully to scholarly discussion
• Science communication: presenting one’s own research (poster, talk), communicating results with purpose, and building clear, coherent arguments
• Discussion and feedback culture: actively engaging in scientific exchange, giving and receiving constructive feedback
• Integrated (methodological) thinking: connecting classical neuro-methods with innovative approaches, and considering their implications for one’s own research questions (“thinking outside the box”)
Voraussetzungen Participation in the Interdisciplinary Colloquium on Behavioral Neuroscience requires that students are enrolled in a PhD program. Priority is given to doctoral candidates from the University of Lucerne, as the number of participants is limited. In addition, the dissertation project must have a clear connection to (behavioral) neuroscience to ensure thematic alignment with the colloquium.

Hinweise Active participation is expected throughout the course, as each session builds on the collective preparation and engagement of all participants. To ensure meaningful discussion and high-quality contributions, students should plan for approximately 3-4 hours of preparation per session, which may include reading and critically evaluating assigned papers, preparing presentations or posters, reflecting on methodological aspects relevant to their own projects, and completing other session-specific tasks.
