Inhalt The Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot (Vis Moot) is an annual competition in which around 400 university teams from around the world compete. The teams argue a hypothetical commercial dispute on behalf of the claimant and the respondent before simulated arbitration panels.
The case raises typical issues of the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG) and of international commercial arbitration. Based on the case, the participants draft a Memorandum for Claimant and subsequently for Respondent.
The week before Easter the oral pleadings take place in Vienna.
The course aims to equip students with a range of theoretical and practical skills essential to lawyers. It imparts in-depth knowledge of the CISG, international commercial arbitration and comparative law. Students also learn to draft memoranda and to plead orally, while improving their written and spoken English. Finally, they experience intensive teamwork in a group of ambitious students.
Lernziele Students develop theoretical and practical legal skills, including legal writing, oral advocacy and comparative legal analysis, and strengthen their legal English. No prior experience in arbitration or advocacy is required, only a strong interest and a willingness to fully commit to the team.
